A beginners class teaching you the basic techniques of traditional Māori art form of Mahi Raranga (flax weaving) This covers basic fundamental in Tikanga, history and mahi raranga processes with harakeke. Harvesting harakeke and treatments consisting of hapene, boiling/dyeing to prepare the harakeke for basic awesome projects including putiputi, (flowers) kono (small containers) bracelets, decorations, waikawa (large container).
Five evening classes and 1 x 6 hour workshop to be held within the first Saturday of course commencement. This will depend on class discussion for attendance suitability and weather permitting. Attendance at the Saturday workshop is compulsory in order to attend further classes. Class is held in a relaxed and open environment. Please bring an old bath towel and scissors for your first class.
